The Ferrari 360 Challenge for 2005: Improving on 2004

The 2005 360 is an important vehicle to Ferrari for the coupe market segment. The Challenge is a member of a series of three trim levels for the 360 which include Challenge, Modena, and Spider. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ferrari. There is strong competition from vehicles from Honda.

The restyled 360 Challenge is equipped with a 3.6-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 40 valves. The engine is mated to a Ferrari six-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2004 version.

The fuel system for the 2005 360 is a Bosch ME-7.3 system, running on gasoline . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The 360 comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $174,585 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-high price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

The standard warranty period for the 360 is 24 months, or Unlimited miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the coupe market.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2005 360 gets 23 miles/gallon on the highway and only 17 in the city. This is below average for a coupe car.

The 2005 model year was very successful for the Ferrari 360. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Challenge version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
