A high point in the coupe market is the Lamborghini Gallardo. In 2004 Lamborghini rolled out an upgraded version of the Gallardo with one versions: Base. Sales for the Gallardo, especially the Gallardo Base, were brisk during 2004 and 2005. The improved reliability and the updated styling were responsible for the increased interest.

The restyled Gallardo Base is equipped with a 5.0-liter ten-cylinder engine that utilizes 40 valves. The engine is mated to a Lamborghini six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2003 version.

The fuel system for the 2004 Gallardo is a Lamborghini LIE system, running on gasoline . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Gallardo uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The dimensions of the Gallardo Base are 74.80 inches wide by 169.30 inches long. It sits 45.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 100.70 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $165,900 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-low price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

The standard warranty period for the Gallardo is 24 months, or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the coupe market.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2004 Gallardo gets 15 - 17 miles/gallon on the highway and only 9 - 10 in the city. This is below average for a coupe car.
