The Base configuration is powered by the 2.9-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 23 highway miles and 17 city. The F40 competes in the Coupe market segment, in direct competition with Hyundai.
The 1992 F40 is an important vehicle to Ferrari for the coupe market segment. The Base is a member of a series of one trim levels for the F40 which include Base. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ferrari. There is strong competition from vehicles from Lexus.
The LM American Base is equipped with a Lamborghini 5.2 liter twelve -cylinder engine that utilizes 48 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF 5-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Lamborghini.
The 512 TR Base is equipped with a Ferrari 4.9 liter twelve -cylinder engine that utilizes 48 valves. The engine is mated to a Ferrari 5-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ferrari.
